Where is Singapore

Singapore is situated at the southern tip of the Malayan Peninsular between Malaysia and Indonesia. Being located near the equator, Singapore is a tropical country with no four seasons therefore she experiences consistent rainfall throughout the whole year.

Singapore has an efficient public transportation network making travelling around the country simple and convenient.

Singapore is a multi-racial and multi-religious country with a majority of the race being Chinese (74%), followed by Malays (13%), Indians (9%) and others.

Lion DanceThe rich mixture of cultures in Singapore means that there’s always a cultural event to celebrate, all through the year. For the Chinese, there it is Chinese New Year which usually falls around February. The Malays would celebrate Hari Raya Puasa and Hari Raya Haji, while the Indians it would be Deepavali. The various religions would also have their festivals like Thaipusam and Good Friday, etc.

The Department of Civil Engineering is one of the eight Departments and Divisions in the Faculty of Engineering of the National University of Singapore, which is ranked 10th in the world for technology.

The Civil Engineering department has a JointBEng degree programme with JointBEngthe University of Melbourne(UM). This programme provides a unique educational experience for the students involved. UM hosts one of the top civil engineering departments in Australia. It possesses a strong programme in hydrology and a structural engineering program with emphasis on earthquake and blast loading that NUS students could benefit from. With the integration of the NUS and UM academic programmes, a much broader range of elective subjects are made available to students of both institutions.
